Alternative Fuel Cars - Nissan to Develop Own Hybrids to Catch Up With Toyota (Update4) 


Dec. 11 (Bloomberg) — Nissan Motor Co., Japan’s second- largest carmaker, will develop its own gasoline-electric hybrid cars by 2010, to compete in a segment where it lags Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co.

U.S. Power Grid Could Fuel Up to 180 Million Electric Cars, DOE Study Says 
Washington DC December 11, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reports that the nation’s existing electric power grid could fuel as many as 180 million plug-in hybrids, according to a study to be released today by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Britain gets first on-street electric car chargers

Improved Electric Cars 
The first UK order of G-Wiz AC electric cars has arrived in the UK, and will be seen on the streets of London within the next couple of weeks. The AC replaces the existing G-Wiz DC, and has the same price ( 8299) but an increased top speed of 45mph and a range of up to 48 miles.

Security of supply ‘paramount’ 
Mr Parker stresses that the preference for renewables cannot compromise security of electricity supply, which is paramount. At the moment about 30 per cent of the country’s electricity comes from fossil fuels. The proportion has been rising.
